UPDATED at 4:48 a.m.

The evacuation for residents living within the affected area of the gas pipeline which ruptured about 2 a.m. this morning, Monday, Feb. 13, has been called off.

Initially, an evacuation for residents living within a mile of the 14000 block of Peairs Road in Pride had been ordered, but that evacuation has since been cancelled.

Gas Utility District 1, 10633 Greenwell Springs-Port Hudson Road, which supplies gas to many residents in the area of north Baton Rouge Parish in Pride and Zachary, said if your gas comes from their facility DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR GAS.

Local fire, police, sheriff's department and hazmat teams are on the scene, and say that no evacuation is currently necessary.

The Central Fire Department has reported that the ruptured gas pipeline has been sealed, and they are giving the "all clear."

The loud roaring sound that people in the northern part of East Baton Parish heard this morning was a ruptured gas pipeline in the 14000 block of Peairs Road in Pride.

Residents on Peairs Road were initially told to evacuate, as the sound could be heard as far away as Greensburg, Clinton and Ethel.

No incidents of fire were reported, and the gas pipeline did not ignite.

Many people in the Pride, Chaneyville and Zachary areas reported hearing a loud, rumbling sound very similar to that of a jet engine or freight train, which could be heard until 4:15 a.m.

"A loud explosion woke me up, shook my room and knocked some stuff off my walls," said Jared Lasyone, 18, a Tucker Road resident.

People in northern EBR and surrounding areas reported hearing similar accounts.
