Four Zachary High School Band students signed music scholarships last Friday, May 4.

ZHS Band Directors Jason Venable and Donny Alexander were on hand, along with fellow band students and family members, to honor and support the signees at a reception in their honor. The four senior band signees are: Tyler Usie, who plays the saxophone and bassoon, signed with the University of Lafayette; Liz Chase plays the trombone and signed with the University of Arkansas; Michael Lethermon plays the drums and signed with Northwestern State; and Sheila Humphrey, who plays the horn, also signed with Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Venable said the students all set up and performed their own auditions for the universities.

"Their success has resulted in these scholarships," Venable said.

Chase, originally from Arkansas, said she auditioned for both NSU and Arkansas. "I'm a huge Razorback fan, so obviously I chose Arkansas," said Chase, whose mom, Gina Chase, was on hand to support her daughter.

Usie's parents, Ron and Debbie Usie, said they were very proud of their son, who will study computer animation while at ULL. Lethermon's mom, Loriene Lethermon, said her son also received academic/TOPS scholarships.

Congratulations to these four ZHS band students!
