Second Lt. Christopher Gaines, a 2003 graduate of Zachary High School and a 2007 graduate of Louisiana Tech University, has completed specialized undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force base, Columbus, Miss.

Lt. Gaines’ coveted “silver wings” were pinned on him by his great uncle, LTC Gilbert Slaughter, a former World War II glider pilot, at a graduation ceremony held at Columbus AFB on April 6.

Lt. Gaines completed the 54-week program training in both the T-6 and T-38 aircraft.

Lt. Gaines has been assigned to Barksdale Air Force Base where he will undergo an eight-month training program learning to fly the B-52 bomber.

Lt. Gaines is the son of Bill and Carolyn Gaines of Zachary.
