Haze Wilson Thomas passed away peacefully into the Lord's arms at his home on June 2, 2012. He was 82 and a resident of Zachary since 1958. He was the son of the late Harvey Hayes Thomas and Bennie Shows Thomas of Winnfield, La.

Haze graduated from Jonesboro High School and attended Louisiana Tech. He retired from the State of Louisiana where he worked many years at Greenwell Springs Tuberculosis Hospital.

His hobbies included music, woodworking, painting, gunsmithing and gardening. In music, despite not being able to read a note, he could play many instruments by ear. He was happiest when singing baritone in various Southern Gospel quartets over the years, including the Jonesboro Junior Quartet and First Baptist Church of Zachary Men's Quartet. He was a man of many talents and much love and those aptitudes live on in his descendants.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Sappington Thomas, and four children: Melanee Thomas Fuentes and husband Mike of Prairieville; Mark Thomas and wife Marti of Lafayette; Micah Thomas and wife Leisa of Walker; and Mahlon Thomas and wife Karen of Slaughter. He is also survived by a brother, Earnest B. Thomas of South Carolina. He has seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Debra Leigh Thomas and Robbie Layne Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Generations Hospice, 32948 La. Hwy 16, Denham Springs, LA 70706. His wishes were to donate his body to science and a memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23.
