Baker firefighters responded to a house fire early on Sept. 24 and the cause is still under investigation, said Howard Ward, Baker Fire Department's Public Information Officer.

The call came into the Baker FD at 4:52 a.m. last Monday, Ward reported, of a house fire in progress at 12979 Wedgewood Dr.

Five units responded to the scene to find flames coming through the roof in the rear of the home, said Ward.

Firefighters performed a quick search of the residence and discovered the owners were not at home.

"The fire was brought under control and prevented from spreading to nearby homes, but the Wedgewood residence suffered serious damage," Ward said.

After being notified of the blaze, the owners returned home, and Red Cross was called to assist due to the home's extensive damage from flames, water and smoke.

Ward said damages to the home were estimated at $150,000.

"Fire investigators will continue their quest into determining the exact cause of the fire," said Ward.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Baker Police and EMS also responded to the scene.
