Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent, assumed a new leadership role this weekend at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in San Diego, CA.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Colonel Edmonson was elected as the General Chair of the Division of State and Provincial Police (S&P) at IACP’s annual conference being held in San Diego.

Founded in 1938, the IACP’s Division of S&P has the responsibility of organizing, directing, coordinating, and promoting IACP programs relating to the needs of state and provincial police agencies.

The division is a membership organization comprised of the 49 state law enforcement agencies, Puerto Rico and three provincial police agencies; the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Ontario Provincial Police and Sureté du Québec.

It is the division’s goal to address key policy issues, facilitate information sharing amongst S&P agencies to foster collaboration and cross-jurisdictional problem solving.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen by my peers to lead such an important division of the IACP which champions programs that directly support state and provincial law enforcement officers across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada,” said Colonel Edmonson. “We have spent the last four years strengthening partnerships amongst law enforcement agencies in Louisiana by sharing resources and training. I now have the opportunity to share our success story beyond the Louisiana state line. I also look forward to learning of other state and province’s successes and bring them back home to Louisiana.”

On Oct. 1 in San Diego, Colonel Edmonson led a plenary session among police officers from across the world on “Preventing Violence Against the Police” recounting some of the significant incidents and recent lethal encounters by Louisiana State Troopers and other Louisiana law enforcement officers.
