The Baker Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a house fire on Sunday that broke out about 7:06 p.m.

Undetermined and still under investigation, Baker fire firefighters were called to the scene of smoke coming from a home located at 4402 Burgess Street.

"Upon arrival, heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the front bedroom of the home and were quickly spreading to the attic," said Howard Ward, Baker FD's Public Information Officer.

After a search of the residence, it was determined that everyone was out of the house.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control fairly quickly, Ward said.

Early indications show the cause of the blaze originated in the bedroom or near the bed, said Ward.

Nearly $85,000 in damages were caused to the home, but no injuries were reported.

Ward said three people live in the home, but the owner was across the street at the time the fire began. The only person inside the home, the owner's brother, was able to escape unharmed prior to the fire escalating.

Baker Police, Zachary Fire/Rescue and EMS also responded to the scene.

Red Cross was called to assist the owners.
