The vote for the St. Landry Parish Superintendent position may take a while as the extortion allegations against Board members John Miller and Quincy Richard will hold up any vote for a undetermined time.
Miller and Richard allegedly tried to extort money from Interim Superintendent Joseph Cassimere, in return for their votes in a Board meeting that was supposed to be held Wednesday, Sept. 26.
School Board President Kyle Boss says they will wait for the entire legal process to play out before moving forward with a vote.
Another issue that can affect the process is the board is down one member after the resignation of Scott Richard, after he took a post with the State School Boards Association.
If the Board waits until the November election to fill that seat, the vote could pushed back again if they choose to re-interview or re-advertise the position to allow the new member to be involved.
Cassimere is one of five candidates for the post, while four of the five interviewees were in the building for Thursday’s meeting.
The board members chose not to comment on the extortion allegations against Miller and Richard.
