On Thursday, Oct. 4, students at Zachary Elementary School took part in the national Read for the Record event.

For the second year in a row, players from the Zachary High football team visited the ZES campus to read to the students.

"This was a great opportunity for the kids since many of them look up to the Bronco players," said Brandie McNabb, ZES teacher. "To see the guys in their uniforms reading to the little ones was a magical moment. "

Read for the Record is a national event sponsored by Jumpstart and Pearson Publishing, which began in 2006. The national campaign works toward having millions of people come together on one day to celebrate literacy and support Jumpstart in its efforts to promote early childhood literacy.

Each year since its inception, the record has been broken.
