SCHRIEVER, La.--Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, a 73-year-old Schriever woman was tragically killed as a vehicle struck the passenger side of the vehicle where she was sitting, reports Tpr. Evan Harrell, Public Information Officer with La. State Police.

The investigation revealed that a 1995 Buick Century, driven by Warren Morvant, 74, of Schriever, was exiting the St. George Bridge attempting to make a left turn onto La. 24 North, said Harrell.

The Buick was struck on the right side by a 2009 GMC Yukon traveling north on La. 24 North, Harrell said.

The Yukon was being driven by Sharone McPherson, 34, of Thibodaux.

After the impact, the Buick rotated counterclockwise off the left side of the road, crossing the median, and coming to rest in the southbound lane of La. 24 South.

The Yukon continued straight on La 24 north after the impact and was struck in the rear by a 2012 Nissan Maxima traveling north on La. 24 North, said Harrell.

The Nissan Maxima was being driven by Jaynee Thompson, 22, of Berwick, La., Tpr. Harrell said.

The Yukon, after being struck a second time, overturned and came to rest off the roadway.

Warren Morvant, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. McPherson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Terrebonne General with moderate injuries. Thompson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with minor injuries, Harrell said.

Geraldine Morvant, front seat passenger in the Buick, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office, reports Tpr. Harrell. Morvant, 73, of Schriever, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Harrell said.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Morvant and McPherson with the test results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Thompson submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement.

This crash remains under investigation.
