St. Francis of Assisi is known as the patron saint of animals. He wrote Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things. “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.”

A procession of animals - everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and even horses - is led to churches every year for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets.

On Thursday, Oct. 4, St. Patrick's Episcopal Pre-school celebrated St. Francis of Assisi Day in recognition of St. Francis's love for all animals.

Each child was encouraged to bring their pet, a picture of their pet or a favorite stuffed animal to be blessed in a special ceremony by Fr. Chad Jones of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Zachary.
