The committee oversees all of the decisions that the many representative bodies that comprise our organization make including those of our member schools, coaches, officials and other groups.
The executive committee regulates all financial expenses, considers state championship site bids, voices opinions regarding reclassification of districts, establishes special rules to establish a spirit of fair competition and good sportsmanship and authorizes the addition or removal of high school sports at the association’s Annual Convention in January each year.
In addition to the above, the executive committee can provide recourse for individuals seeking to file complaints, appeal decisions by the executive director and define the LHSAA Constitution and By-laws.
The committee hears appeals concerning rules violations and the naming of district representatives, rules regarding problems affecting a specific school classification and written charges against a member school.
All decisions made by the executive committee are always final with the exception of hardship cases, which are determined by the hardship committee.
Membership on the committee includes 14 member principals (two per classification), three at-large principals from any classification, two representatives from the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, one Louisiana High School Athletic Directors Associate representative, one non-public school representative from any classification and the LHSAA past president.
The Department of Education, School Boards Association and Superintendents Association are also granted one representative each.
The LHSAA Executive Committee lives by our organization’s motto of going “Beyond the Game.”
In the past, it has formed a school relations committee to foster better member relations and played a major role in mediating a conflict between LHSAA member schools and the Louisiana High School Officials Association.
It also led the charge in our association’s involvement in the National Federation of High School Associations’ Licensing Program to provide additional revenue to member schools.
Executive committee members are subjected to term limitations and restrictions, and any rules or changes in the LHSAA Constitution or its by-laws made after the annual meeting must be ratified by membership at the next annual meeting.
For more information about these restrictions, which are listed in Article 4 of the Constitution, visit the LHSAA website at www.LHSAA.org.
