Jindal names reappointments to Capital Area Human Services District Board

Governor Bobby Jindal announced reappointments to the Capital Area Human Services District Board Oct. 26.

The Capital Area Human Service District Board serves to operate and manage community-based programs and services relative to public health, mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services for the parishes of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

According to statute, the board is comprised of 17 gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Two members are appointed from each of the following parishes: Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

Five members are appointed from East Baton Rouge Parish. Appointees are selected from nominations submitted by the governing authority of each parish, except in Ascension Parish where the parish president will submit the nominations.

Reappointments to the Capital Area Human Services District Board are:

• Kay Andrews, of Clinton, is a retired employee of R.K. Munson, M.D., a rural physician. Andrews will be reappointed to serve as a representative of East Feliciana Parish.

• Gail Hurst, of New Roads, is the Executive Director of Faith United for Empower and Leadership Ministry. Hurst will be reappointed to serve as a representative of Pointe Coupee Parish.

• Rebekah “Becky” Katz, of Donaldsonville, is the Executive Director of the Donaldsonville Area Chamber of Commerce. Katz will be reappointed to serve as a representative of Ascension Parish.

• Christy Burnett, of Geismar, is the Assistant Health Unite Director for Ascension Parish. Burnett will be reappointed to serve as a representative of Ascension Parish.

All were nominated by their parish governing authority, as required by statute.
