BATON ROUGE – Services for Msgr. Andrew Frey will be Friday. He died Oct. 30 at age 91.

He was founding pastor of St. Thomas More Church in Baton Rogue and was pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church for 23 years until his retirement.

Survivors include a brother and a sister.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Acclaimed baseball coach, scouty

SHREVEPORT – Services for former teacher and coach Dr. James Farrar will be Saturday. He died Oct. 30 at age 81.

He was a US Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a two-time all-conference catcher at La. Tech and played minor league baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization.

He was head coach at Northwood High and was also head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Fair Park. His Fair Park baseball teams won two state championships. He was three times Louisiana High School Baseball Coach of the Year and was also state High School Football Coach of the Year.

He was also a professor and baseball coach at Centenary College for more than 20 years and chairman of its Health and Physical Education Dept. for 11 years. He was a long-time scout for the Houston Astros. Players he recommended for signing included Roy Oswalt and J.R. Richards.

He was a member of the Halls of Fame at Centenary and Northwood and the LSWA Hall in Natchitoches.

Survivors include a son and two daughters.
