Zachary Fire Chief Danny Kimble and Capt. Gordon Lipscomb would like to let Zachary citizens know that if they are contacted by the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana about a concert May 4, the call is legitimate and not a scam as some residents were previously told.

The concert will be held Saturday, May 4, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) and is titled the The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Louisiana Blues man and local talent Chris LeBlanc.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. and is being presented on behalf of the PFFALA.

In previous years, the firefighters' association has raised money for charities such as Muscular Dystrophy Association, Baton Rouge Burn Center, American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, says Chad Major, PFFALA president.

"We wanted to get involved again so here we are," Majors said. "This year's charities include MDA, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, BR Burn Center, Lifeshare Blood Centers, ACS and AHA."

Majors said the PFFALA has resumed organizing the benefit concerts, which will feature different types of talent each year.

PFFALA plus members of the 52 local firefighters associations in Louisiana will also benefit from the event.

Major said the portion of the funds they receive will be used to advocate in the state legislature to improve and/or implement better safety laws for citizens as well as firefighters.

In addition, Major said that the PFFALA will be conducting six first-aid and safety seminars around the state in Spring 2013.

"These are open to the public and the information is relayed to citizens by our callers," Major said.
