Randy Olson, CEO of Lane Regional Medical Center, welcomed attendees to a ribbon cutting ceremony at Lane Surgery Group Monday, Nov. 5. Lane Surgery Group is an affiliate of Lane RMC. "Thank you all for coming today," Olson said. "We started employing general surgeons about a year ago and were lucky enough to find Dr. Sam Field and Dr. Thomas Kang."

Olson said the surgery group and Lane plan to hire another general surgeon for the community to make the group complete.

Dr. Samuel B. Field graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and received his Medical Degree from Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans. He completed his General Surgery residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Texas A&M School of Medicine in Temple, Texas.

He is board certified in General Surgery with more than 12 years of experience including trauma, laparoscopic gallbladder, appendix, intestine and skin lesions.

Dr. Field graduated from Episcopal High School and lives in Baton Rouge with his wife, Kelly, and their two children.

Dr. Thomas Kang graduated Summa cum Laude from LSU in Baton Rouge, and received his Medical Degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed both his General Surgery internship and residency at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. During his training, Dr. Kang authored several presentations and publications on topics including laparoscopic and bariatric surgery.

He is board eligible in General Surgery and has a special interest in laparoscopic, hernia, gallbladder, anti-reflux, and colon surgery.

Dr. Kang is a native of Welsh, La. He and his wife Hana are classically trained musicians and play piano and violin, respectively, in their spare time.

They also have a 20-month-old daughter, Sophia. Dr. Kang also enjoys playing tennis and reading history and literature.
