Parade goers lined Main Street en masse Dec. 15, awaiting the floats, marchers and riders for the Chamber-sponsored event that was one of several firsts this year.
For the first time, the parade started in the afternoon instead of its usual 10 a.m. go time.
Concerns of floats rolling along in the dark pushed the start time up from 4 to 3:45 p.m.
Also for the first time, the 91 entrants made their way along Main Street to Ridgeway in under two hours but with plenty of surprises in store.
The event's first-ever flash mob, courtesy of Zachary Elementary and Fitness Design for Women, landed the health club a "Best Marchers" honor.
"Best Float" went to the Boy Scouts of America's Pack 46, and Zachary United Methodist Church won for "Best Display of Parade Theme" for their familial interpretation of The Flintstones.
Bringing up the rear in an awesome display of angelic light was Cooper Vet Horse Group's Angels Among Us Batteries Not Included Best Riding entry.
Congratulations, Honorable Mention winners Georgia Pacific for its Brawny Air Cannon and Krispy Kreme for their awesome throws.
Following the Christmas parade was the City-wide Open House celebration which began at 6 p.m. with the annual lighting of the tree by Mayor David Amrhein.
Christmas performances of dancing, food, music and movies were enjoyed by all who attended.
Both celebrations were huge hits with the Zachary community.
More photos from the parade and open house pictures will be featured in the Dec. 26 edition of the Zachary Plainsman-News!
