The Eunice High Bobcats couldn’t overcome a cold-shooting stretch in the fourth quarter as they dropped a 43-39 decision to the Cecilia High Bulldogs in basketball action Monday evening at the Bobcat gym.

The Bobcats, who entered the fourth quarter tied 32-32 with the Bulldogs, were outscored 7-0 in the opening 5:54 of the final quarter as Cecilia built a 39-32 advantage. While the Cats struggled, the Bulldogs’ Rodney Roberts managed to make his only two field goals of the game and Jalen Frederick nailed a three-point shot to provide the Bulldogs with their seven points.

The Bobcats’ Jawaski Thomas broke the scoreless string with a field goal at the 2:46 mark, then cut the lead to 39-36 with another field goal at the 2:08 mark.

The Bobcats had two chances to tie the game in the final 1:36, but missed two three-point tries. With 23.6 seconds left in the game, the Cats were forced to foul Frederick. He converted both ends of a one-and-one to push the lead to 41-36.

Eunice’s Ben Allison hit a three-point shot with 11.5 seconds left to cut the lead to 41-39, but Frederick broke free for a goal on a long inbound pass in the final seconds to seal the victory for the Bulldogs (7-4).

The Bobcats took a 16-8 lead after the first quarter as Trenon Trosclair hit three 3-point goals in the early going. The Bulldogs closed the gap to 24-21 with a 13-8 advantage in the second quarter, then tied the game with an 11-8 advantage in the third quarter.
