Zachary Food Pantry receives holiday donations

The Plains Masonic Lodge #135 in Zachary recently held a jambalya dinner fundraiser to benefit the Zachary Community Food Pantry.

The fundraiser was held at the Zachary Farmer’s Market, and the Lodge was able to raise $1,350.

The donation was presented to the volunteers of the Zachary Community Food Pantry on Dec. 7.

Plains Lodge Master for 2012, Scott Turner and Past Master Robert Nelson presented the check to food volunteers Reginald Dykes, Merna Ford, Roma Prejean and Barbara Manchester.

In addition, Zachary Kiwanians presented volunteers of the Zachary Food Pantry with a $150 donation on Dec. 11.

Kiwanians Audrey Nabors-Jackson and Bruce Langley presented food pantry volunteers Henry Kliebert, Roma Prejean, Pat Metcalf, Merna Ford, Tanya Stroud, Barbara Manchester, Joe Anzalone and Charles Alleman with the donation.

In total, the Zachary Food Pantry has received nearly $30,000 in donations over the holidays from various businesses and city and civic organizations, as well as from private donors via community fundraisers.

The new food pantry buildingl, currently under construction, is expected to open mid-January.
