Grade Point Averages are the first thing considered, then the students answer a questionnaire. The questions are based on the Regional and State Student of the Year competitions.
The 8th grade teachers are given a list of all the students who qualify and the questionnaires they have filled out, then the teachers choose 10-12 candidates to go through an interview process.
Once all the candidates complete the interview process with counselors and administrators, a student is finally chosen to represent NMS as its Student of the Year.
The 2012-13 NMS Student of the Year candidates, listed alphabetically, are: Skyller Castello, Adam Clark, Connor Gibbon, Karli Hall, John-Paul Hardin, Joseph Harkrider, Ashleigh Martin, Stephanie Schlorke, Ashley Soileau, Faith Varnado and Zach Wall.
