The Louisiana State Police along with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spent the last two months investigating a hit and run fatality that occurred on La. 3185 near La. 1 in Lafourche Parish. On Tuesday afternoon an arrest was made in the two month long hit and run investigation, said Tpr. Evan Harrell with the Louisiana State Police.
The crash occurred on Nov. 10 of last year. The hit-and-run vehicle described as a Chevrolet Z-71 was pulling out of a private drive. A 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Karey Authement, 41, of Baton Rouge, was traveling westbound on La. 3185.
While the Yamaha was traveling west, the Z71 failed to yield to the motorcycle as it made a wide right turn onto La. 3185. Authement took an evasive maneuver by laying the motorcycle down, Harrell said.
During the time of the maneuver and/or while striking the Z71, Authement was ejected from the motorcycle, at which time, the Z71 rolled over him.
Authement was transported to Thibodaux Regional by Acadian and then flown to University of New Orleans where he later passed away, said Harrell.
The Chevrolet Z71 fled the scene of the crash.
State Police along with the assistance of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated multiple leads in reference to the case. One of the leads led to the arrest of Arthur Meads, of 132 Violet St., in Thibodaux.
During questioning, Meads confessed to the hit and run, Tpr. Harrell said.
Meads was booked into the Lafourche Parish Jail and charged with felony hit and run, negligent homicide, driving left of center and having no driver’s license, Tpr. Harrell reports.
