The Zachary Community School Board recognized Zachary Elementary's Spelling Bee winners at its Jan. 24 meeting.

ZES holds two spelling bees annually in its second and third grades.

Mimi Bennett, Spelling Bee coordinator, said 38 second-graders competed for the title of Spelling Bee Champ, and 31 competed for the victory in third-grade.

Only one was crowned from each grade.

Second-grade winner Gavin Malden, who correctly spelled 'jelly' for the win, was recognized at last week's school board meeting.

Third-grade winner Hannah Lopez won with the correct spelling of the word 'magician.'

Lopez was also recognized.

Both ZES Spelling Bee winners received certificates of honor for their achievements.
