The arrest of the 47-year-old comes after an investigation into allegations against Doyle which occurred while he was employed as the Baker Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer and School Resource Officer, says TFC Jared L. Sandifer in a La. State Police press release.
Baker Police Chief Mike Knaps requested State Police Detectives to open the investigation after officers within the Baker PD discovered documentation, a recipt book, which indicated that Doyle was collecting money from students at several Baker schools for “DARE Fees.”
Chief Knaps said that all expenses associated with the DARE Program are funded by the BPD through a federal grant and there is no need to solicit fees from students.
Doyle admitted to collecting the “fees.”
It was determined that over the course of three years, Doyle collected over $4,000 from students for the unauthorized “fees.”
Chief Knaps stated that he asked for assistance from LSP in investigating his former officer because “law enforcement officers should be held to the same (if not higher) standards as the people they protect and serve.”
Doyle was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
