When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, Bret Funk, 36, and his wife relocated to the Zachary area to be near her family. Funk had been working as a field technician for another computer service company, and following Katrina, found himself handling the technical, administrative and accounting work for that firm in their newly-opened Baton Rouge office.

With more than 10 years of technical and business experience under his belt, Funk felt that he was ready to operate and run his own business, and in 2012 he did just that, choosing Zachary as the ideal location to launch InfinIT Technology Group.

"I've always liked technology," said Funk, who has degrees from Tulane in biochemistry and epidemiology, the study (or the science of the study) of the patterns, causes and effects of health and disease conditions in defined populations. "A lot of the analytical part of the sciences lends itself to the computer work that I do."

Funk is self-taught when it comes to repairing computers. "It was either fix it myself or call someone who could, which meant waiting and spending money on something that I knew I could do a better job repairing."

InfinIT Technology Group is located at 4360 Lee St. (in the little house next door to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church). For now, Funk and Caroline Campbell, his administrative assistant, runs InfinIT Technology Group.

The company's tag line is infinite problems, one solution and offers repairs, network solutions, computer back-up services, remote services and service agreements for residential and small to medium sized businesses, but will not turn away any customer, regardless of business size.

InfinIT also offers basic monitoring agreements at just $5 per computer within your home or office. "If we have to fix something, then you would get a discounted rate because you're already our client," explained Funk.

Most of Funk's work centers around computer performance issues, network related issues or virus clean-ups, and he also does on site work in clients' offices, businesses or homes.

"We take pride in taking a proactive maintenance approach with our clients," Funk said. "Our goal is to become much more than your repair guy, we want to be your IT department."

InfinIT's role is to prevent problems, not just respond after they happen, Funk says.

Most items dropped off at InfinIT, that do not require specialty parts, are returned in 1-2 business days.

Funk says he prefers working on computers remotely or at InfinIT because he can do a better job for his clients.

He's hoping to grow his business more in the East and West Feliciana areas, and several of his clients are ecstatic that he'll drive to them in St. Francisville for no extra trip fees.

InfinIT Technology Group's hours of operation in the office are Monday thru Thursday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday drop-offs or pick-ups are by appointment only.
