Capital Area Special Olympics Track & Field Games Feb. 27-28

The Capital Area Management Team will host the Capital area track and field meet for nearly 450 Special Olympics Louisiana athletes on Wednesday, Feb. 27, and Thursday, Feb. 28.

Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. and events at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana School for the Deaf, 2888 Brightside in Baton Rouge.

There will be lots of fun during the day and community members, family, friends and media are encouraged to attend. Opening Ceremonies will include the arrival of the Olympic torch, the Parade of Athletes, and the lighting of the Olympic Flame of Hope by local law enforcement.

We encourage everyone of all ages to come out and support our athletes.

All sporting competitions are free and open to the public. Come cheer on the SOLA athletes!

Special Olympics Louisiana (SOLA) is a state-wide, 501© 3 Non-profit organization, that changes lives by promoting understanding, acceptance and inclusion between people with and without intellectual disabilities.

SOLA offers year-round programs for 13,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in all 64 parishes with the help of 14,000 volunteers.

Health, education, leadership, family, training and sports programs are available for people beginning at age 2 and there is no upper age limit. There is no cost to participate in Special Olympics.
