Zachary High School Senior Thomas Manuel, 17, is the recent winner of $500 from the local chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation scholarship fund.

Manuel received the $500 from the NWTF on Friday, Feb. 22, at its annual turkey banquet held in Jackson at the Jackson Civic Center.

Manuel also received $250 from the Cody Hodges Memorial Fund.

Hodges was a resident of Walker who died suddenly at the age of 21 in Dec. 2011.

He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Manuel said the $750 will be applied to expenses he will incur at Mississippi State where he plans to attend next fall.

The 17-year-old ZHS senior says he loves to hunt turkey and deer.

Manuel is the son of Tom and Phyllis Manuel of Zachary.
