Zachary High senior golfer Peyton McCulloch played in the Tuerlings Mardi Gras golf tournament and swept the field shooting a -1 under par (71).

The tournament was held Feb. 11 at Farm De Allie Golf Club in Carencro. The tournament field consisted of many Louisiana high school golf teams including Tuerlings Catholic, Barbe, Catholic, Sulphur, Sam Houston and many others.

Although the ZHS golf team was invited to attend and declined, McCulloch decided to enter as an individual player in the tournament to represent Zachary.

The rain was nonstop, which resulted in a two-hour delay in teeing off and continued to pour during the entire tournament making low scores almost impossible.

McCulloch battled all 18 holes firing a -1 par score of 71 to take the win and an overall first-place meda.

He won the tournament by eight strokes, making it "one of the largest wins in a high school tournament in years," the Tuerlings tournament director said.

"I wanted this win for Zachary and for my friends on the baseball team," said McCulloch.
