Zachary newcomer, Lisa Pope is presently exhibiting several of her pieces, including a soft pastel titled “Two Blades of Grass” and three watercolors: “Purple Iris”, “Curiosity” and “Blue Star Fish Discovery”.
Her skills and expertise include watercolor, pastel, acrylic paint, graphite and charcoal drawings. She also does commissioned paintings and portraits from photos.
Pope is presently a member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Zachary Artist Guild.
Pope says she's always loved art, even though she chose to pursue a career in education, serving as a school counselor in Virginia Beach, Va. "With a career at hand, marriage and family, I was left with little time for my art," said Pope. "After growing to miss it, I dug out my old paints, and gave them a whirl."
The artist says she immediately reconnected with her original love for painting and has been actively painting ever since. “I apply paint and can’t wait to see what happens," Pope says.
She quotes Pablo Picasso who said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
Pope says that is what she is attempting to do- return to the art she loves and see the world with fresh new eyes. "The world is anew. It’s full of vibrant colors, compositions and perspectives. It feels like a rebirth.”
Pope's exhibitions include: 2012, CAHA Exhibitor Chamorro History month, Guam; 2012, Women’s Art Show - Infinity Exhibit, Guam; 2011, Artisans of Guam; sole exhibit at DFS Galleria; 2011, CAHA Roving Art Exhibit, Guam; 2011 Women’s Art Show - Infinity Art Gallery, Guam; and 2010, Creative Hands: Pacific 2010 Exhibit at the Isla Center for the Arts, University of Guam.
Her work was also featured on a magazine cover of the Spring University Catalog.
