About 11:51 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, Zachary Fire/Rescue responded to the scene at 15550 Hwy. 964 (Old Scenic Highway) and found that a car had indeed run off the roadway and into a pond.
Units arrived about 11:56 p.m. to find the vehicle partially submerged about 60 feet from the water's edge, and the driver standing atop his vehicle.
The Zachary FD confirmed that the male driver was the sole occupant of the submerged vehicle.
Firefighters on the scene said the man was conscious and extremely cold, but uninjured.
Additional manpower was called in, as well as a rescue boat. After the rescue team deployed the boat, they made contact with the driver.
Once the individual was rescued and brought back to the bank, he was transferred to a waiting EMS unit, said a witness on the scene.
EMS then transported the man to Lane Regional Medical Center where he was evaluated, treated and released.
A total of 16 personnel from the ZFD responded to the scene.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
