But this isn't just any class.
The Z-Star course is a college-level course for juniors and seniors who want to be teachers, explained instructor Debby Lowery.
Those who complete the class with a grade of A or B can will earn a college credit.
"The students learn all about child development, teaching preparation and current educational issues, which is why we were at the school board meeting," said Lowery.
During most of the second semester, and in lieu of class time, students actually intern with a teacher at a Zachary school.
"Many of the Z-Star students are at the top of their class academically and could choose any career they wish," Lowery says, "Yet, they're choosing to enter the greatest profession in the world...teaching!"
