![]() Northwestern Middle School recently announced its first semester honor awards. The students who made the honor award list received a Gold Plus Card. The requirements for a Gold Plus card are: students must obtain straight A's, have perfect attendance and receive no behavioral referrals. Students are given the following rewards: an invitation to a Gold Card reception; one free dress day; move to the front of the lunch line for nine weeks; lunch with their favorite teacher; a teacher's pet certificate which entitles them to one hour with their favorite teacher; two free P. E. dress-out days; two homework extension days; and breakfast at McDonald's. NMS 6th-graders who received the honor awards are, from left: Dominick Thomas, Shaun Jullens, Emma Chaney, Robert Burke and Austin Veal.

![]() Mayor David Amrhein and members of the Chamber of Commerce welcomed Southern Clinical Research to the Zachary business community with a ribbon cutting held Monday, Jan. 17. The research facility, which opened in August of last year, is owned by Michelle Gwyn and is located at 4919 W. Park Drive. Gwyn said the business will conduct clinical research and drug trials on human subjects before the drugs are released to the FDA or placed on the market. Southern Clinical Research is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. For more information, contact Gwyn at 654-9901.
