Mayor Reggie Goldbsy accepted a plaque presented by Entergy Representative Craig Schimpf on behave of Amite Tuesday night, December 2. This plaque was presented at the regular council meeting and was given in recognition of Amite meeting the requirements needed to be designated as a Teamwork Louisiana Team City.

According to information provided, the Teamwork Louisiana Team City Program, sponsored by Entergy Corporation, is a proven economic development tool that every Louisiana community should know about. The program is based on the principle that the community that has carefully prepared itself for growth has the best chance of obtaining and sustaining economic prosperity.

Louisiana cities have a lot to offer: abundant resources, willing workers, supportive infrastructures and a cooperative relationship between business and government. Team City Louisiana helps communities pull all these competitive advantages together to win in the economic development game.

As a Louisiana Team City, Amite will be part of Teamwork Louisiana, one of the largest, most aggressive and successful economic development organizations in the region. Teamwork Louisiana helps coordinate the efforts of government, private enterprise, the work force and educational and financial infrastructures. It provides information, experience and practical marketing support to help win the competition for business and jobs. And it works; it has directly contributed to bringing tens of thousands of new jobs to the state since its formation.

In addition to the benefits that flow directly from the planning process itself, Team City communities are eligible for:

• Continued guidance and training assistance from Entergy's professional staff.

• Help in designing and obtaining effective marketing materials.

• Access to economic research for planning purposes.

• Matching funds for meritorious development projects.

• Participation in the network of Team City members.

• International exposure through Entergy's worldwide economic development marketing program.

Team Cities requalify every two years, undergoing reviews of sites and buildings, business retention and development plans, retraining, and updating goals and objectives.

Some Teamwork Louisiana Team Cities:

Baker, Baton Rouge, Bogalusa, Denham Springs, Gonzales, Hammond, Kentwood, New Orleans, Ponchatoula, and Zachary.
