The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana will host a Mardi Gras themed adoption day, “Paws for Mardi Gras” on Saturday, Feb. 2, at The Backpacker from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“Paws for Mardi Gras,” is an adoption event created by the Chapter that strives to place homeless pets in loving homes throughout the Baton Rouge area during the fun filled Mardi Gras Season.

The Baton Rouge Chapter, comprised solely of local volunteers, will come together to achieve a shared goal of placing loving animals into loving homes and provide area residents with a unique way to celebrate the carnival season by adding four legged members to their “Krewe.”

“One of the goals we wanted to accomplish this year in lieu of a traditional adoption event is to combine the fun of adopting a new pet and the fun of Mardi Gras,” says Chapter Treasurer Victoria Beechler. “By pairing one of our greatest local traditions with some of our greatest local residents- cats and dogs- we are able to invite the public to join with us and to help pets in need in the Baton Rouge area.”

“The BR Humane Society is committed to animal rescue and to our community. This year we are taking a leadership role by providing adoption outreach, volunteerism, and financial assistance in new and innovative ways for such a worthy cause. Our Chapter wanted to find a fun way to include residents in a giant “paw-rade” of our available animals. ” says Rhonda Pumphrey, Chapter Vice-President.

All funds raised by our chapter volunteers stay in our community and go directly to fund animal rescue and care. The mission of the Humane Society of Louisiana is to protect and defend animals from cruelty, neglect and mistreatments. Through our cruelty investigation, crime prevention, education and animal care programs, we promote nonviolence and compassion for all animals statewide.
