The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou is an original BRBT production that puts a Louisiana twist on a classic ballet. The production has attracted sold-out audiences since its inception in 1991.
The Nutcracker performances will be Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16 at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.
“This Nutcracker is a great opportunity to celebrate both Louisiana and the holiday season, and it is special because area youth can experience theatre and dance on a grand scale with professional artists and staff,” BRBT co-artistic director Sharon Mathews said.
Auditions for children ages 8-12 for The Nutcracker-A Tale from the Bayou will be Sunday, Sept. 16. Children must be 8-years-old by Dec. 31.
Audition times are as follows:
Boys 8 & older - 12:45 p.m.
Girls 8-years-old - 1:15 p.m.
Girls 9-years-old - 2 p.m.
Girls 10-years-old - 2:45 p.m.
Girls 11-12-years-old - 3:30 p.m.
More than 300 children will be selected to fill the roles of lambs, cherubs, mice, cooks, soldiers, angels and party children.
Season auditions will be Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. These auditions are for classically trained advanced level dancers who have been on pointe for at least two years. These advanced dancers will perform in The Nutcracker and BRBT’s annual spring concert, community outreach programs and other performances.
All dancers should arrive at least 15 minutes before their audition time, and girls should wear a leotard and tights. There will be a $5 audition fee.
