The Recreation and Park Commission of East Baton Rouge Parish (BREC) held a grand re-opening ceremony Jan. 11 of Rollins Road Park, 5794 Rollins Road, in Zachary.

This 10.5-acre park features a new covered basketball court converted from an existing tennis court, new concrete walkways, parking improvements and a refurbished baseball backstop and bleachers.

Existing site amenities include a playground and a lighted baseball field and can also be used for picnics and family gatherings.

Bill Palmer, BREC Superintendent, thanked representatives from the City of Zachary and City Council, Zachary Chamber of Commerce, political state representatives and senators and BREC employees for attending the ceremony.

He also thanked everyone for their particular part in service to the community. "Only through support of the community and from political leaders is BREC able to provide sparks such as these," Palmer said.

Franklin L. Lassiter, AIA, designed the master plan of the Rollins Road park, and BREC’s planning and engineering team oversaw site improvements. JReed Constructors, Inc. served as the general contractor.

Park improvements were made possible by the "Imagine Your Parks" tax passed by East Baton Rouge Parish voters in 2004.

It is the BREC mission to provide parks and recreational opportunities for all residents of East Baton Rouge Parish.
