LAFAYETTE – An 11-month-old boy forgotten by his father died from being confined in a vehicle for more than six hours Monday.

A sheriff's spokesman told KATC-TV that the father realized late in the afternoon that he had forgotten to drop the baby off at daycare when he got a call inquiring about the child's whereabouts.

He rushed his son to the hospital shortly before 5 p.m. where the baby was pronounced dead.

Exterior temperature reached 99 degrees in the city Monday.

Investigation continues.
