A 22-year-old man died Christmas morning from injuries he sustained after his younger sister stabbed him, an East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

According to Tomeka Lathers, 18, she and her brother, Dominique Lathers, 22, argued during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 25, at the Baker area duplex they shared together, said EBRSO's Casey Rayborn Hicks.

Deputies were called to the scene of 300-B McHugh Road in Baker about 12:15 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Tomeka Lathers claimed she and her brother had been arguing when he choked her, Hicks said.

Detectives reported the woman said she went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed him.

Once deputies were on the scene, they say Tomeka Lathers fled the duplex and ran down the street, hiding near some houses, but she was soon apprehended.

Dominique Lathers was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, said Hicks.

Tomeka Lathers was transported and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where she was charged with one count of manslaughter, Hicks said.

The investigation is ongoing.
