Congratulations to the Blue Bloods, from the Zachary Police Department, who took on the following teams in the 2nd annual Relay for Life Volleyball tournament on April 20: the Blazin' Hots of the Zachary Fire Department, Team Chaos, the Avengers, ZHS Girls Volleyball team, Capital City, St. Patrick's Church and Brian Motorsports.

Teams were comprised of community members, athletes, firefighters, police officers, moms, dads, students - anyone wishing to join in friendly, if not competitive, games of "beach" volleyball.

The Blue Bloods are the champions of the entire double-elimination sand court tournament. Way to go, Blue Bloods!

The teams began play about 5:30 p.m. and continued until the lights went out! Also, due to the threat of inclement weather, the champions will receive their trophies at a later date to be determined.

The Blue Bloods included ZPD Chief David McDavid, his wife Sherry McDavid, Amber Guidry, Mary Margaret Turner, Jason Randsom, Kyle Callihan and last minute player, Brett, a Zachary resident. (last name unknown!)

Sharron Ventura, of Raising Cane's in Zachary, organized this year's tournament, which was held at BREC's Zachary Community Park. Ventura said about $500 was raised from the volleyball games alone.

A huge thanks goes out to all the teams who participated in this year's tourney.

All proceeds at Relay for Life benefit the American Cancer Society.
