It was a fight until the end, and then some, as Zachary downed East Feliciana 41-40 in overtime Friday night in Bronco Stadium.

Bronco quarterback Trey Hills threw for 200 yards including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Donald Gage in overtime. Jacob Garrett made his fifth and most crucial extra point of the game to give Zachary the one-point win.

East Feliciana scored first in the overtime period when Trent Anio hauled in a 10-yard pass from Kendell Beckwith. The two-point conversion run failed, but the Tigers led 40-34.

Beckwith completed 27-of-36 attempts for 397 yards and five touchdowns on the night.

Zachary scored first in the opening period on a 15-yard pass from Hills to Gage. The two-point conversion failed, but the Broncos led 6-0.

East Feliciana tied the game when Beckwith connected for an 85-yard pass to Danny Johnson. The PAT failed, and the game remained tied at 6-6 as it moved into the second period.

The Broncos grabbed a 13-6 lead when Boston Scott scored on a 1-yard run, and Garrett’s kick was good.

East Feliciana’s Johnson scored on a 4-yard run, but the two-point conversion run failed, and the Broncos held onto a 13-12 advantage.

Scott added a three-yard touchdown run, and Garrett’s PAT pushed Zachary’s lead to 20-12.

The see-saw battle continued when Beckwith connected with Deryl Matthews for a 9-yard touchdown, and Kameron McNight ran in the two-point conversion as East Feliciana forced a 20-20 moving into the half.

The Broncos moved ahead 27-20 on a nine-yard touchdown run by Forrest Town, and Garrett’s successful PAT provided Zachary’s only points in the third period.

The Tigers grabbed a 28-27 advantage when Johnson caught a 15-yard scoring toss from Beckwith, and McKnight ran in the two-point conversion.

East Feliciana forged ahead 34-27 in the fourth quarter when Beckwith found Anio open for a 10-yard touchdown, but the two-point conversion run failed.

Late in the fourth quarter, Scott scored on an eight-yard run, and Garrett’s kick tied the game at 34-34 to force the overtime period setting up the dramatic finish.

The Tigers outgained the Broncos 439 to 348 yards of total offense, but 11 penalties for 92 yards and a lost fumble also hampered the Tigers at crucial times of the game.

Hill completed 13-of-19 passes and also gained 50 yards on four carries for the Broncos. Scott finished with 87 yards on 25 carries. Gage was the top Bronco receiver with 79 yards on five catches.

Beckwith’s main target was Johnson, who finished with 170 yards on eight catches, while Matthews gained 88 yards on four catches. Anio added 85 yards on seven catches for the EFHS Tigers.

Class 5-A Zachary (2-1) entertains Dutchtown (2-0) this week, while 3-A East Feliciana hosts Richwood (1-2).
