Due to Hurricane Isaac and the closure of Zachary schools this week, the Zachary High Broncos will not play Catholic High School as was initially scheduled Friday, Aug. 31, or for its re-scheduled game on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m.

"We will not play Catholic High School in our Week One game," Bronco Head Football Coach Neil Weiner said in a statement released Aug. 29. "With only two days (at best) to prepare for a game, and then unable to fully prepare for a Week Two opponent, we have agreed to cancel the game. We are keeping the possibility open of playing each other on Friday, Sept. 7."

Both ZHS and Catholic High were scheduled to play South Louisiana teams on Sept. 7 - teams whose areas have been severely affected by Hurricane Isaac.

Thibodaux, originally set to play ZHS, and Mandeville, originally set to play Catholic, may not be able to play next week, Weiner said.

In the meantime, the Broncos will host the Southern Lab Kittens on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m. in Bronco Stadium.

"Southern Lab is a well-coached team with some very talented players," said Coach Weiner. "They played Scotlandville in their season-opening jamboree and lost by one TD. They will be excited to play this game, so we better get prepared."

Kick-off for the Sunday, Sept. 2, game between the ZHS Broncos and the Southern Lab Kittens will be at 5 p.m.
