The date for the annual Zachary Chamber of Commerce Banquet/Business Awards ceremony has been set for Thursday, Oct. 18. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church gymnasium, located at 4727 McHugh Dr.

"We are excited about this year's event and want to communicate our plans with Chamber members and the Zachary community," said Mark Marionneaux, event chairman/Chamber board member, Kate MacArthur, Executive Director of Economic Development and Dr. Jason St. Romain, 2012 Chamber President.

The Chamber Business Awards are held in conjunction with the annual banquet. In the past, the board has relied on each member to nominate other businesses they felt are deserving of the awards.

"As we did last year, we want to hear about our members, and we strongly encourage each member to complete a business profile and submit it to the Chamber office," said Marionneaux.

The deadline for submitting profiles is Wednesday, Oct. 3. The form is short and takes only a few minutes to complete. You can also nominate other members. To do so, e-mail the member or business name to Charmaine Efferson at cefferson@zacharychamber.com before 4 p.m.

Forms can be downloaded at zacharychamber.com. Look under 'Chamber Spotlight' and click on the red 'Banquet Packet' link.

Any individual or business that is a current member of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce is eligible. You can nominate yourself.

Semi-finalists will be announced prior to the banquet, and finalists will be sealed then revealed Oct. 18 at the banquet.

A committee of five makes up the judges and will include: the Chamber Executive Director, Chamber Board President, Banquet Chairman, previous Business Person of the Year winner and a Chamber Ambassador.

Guest speaker at this year's banquet will be Dan Borne', President of the La. Chemical Association. He has also been the public address announcer at Tiger Stadium for 26 years and at the Pete Maravich Center for 24 years.

Returning emcee is Gordy Rush, former LSU Tiger and General Manager of Guaranty Broadcasting.

Back by popular demand, is the Chamber banquet silent auction. If you would like to donate item(s), please contact Danette Castello at 603-6136 or via e-mail danette@castelloagency.com. You may also drop-off items at Danette's office, 4257 Church St., Suite 107, as long as they are labeled and can be tracked back to the donating person/business.

"We have some great items already! Our banquet is going to be another huge success this year, and we hope all of our members can make it," said Charmaine Efferson, Chamber secretary.
