The Zachary Chamber of Commerce and its board of directors donated $1,000 to the Regional Arts Council of Zachary Nov. 8.

The funds are seed money for the RACZ.

Joy Petty, RACZ board chair, accepted the check from Chamber board members.

The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and enliven the community through the arts by enhancing and preserving the cultural and economic health of the region. It serves and acts as a collective “voice” for the arts in Zachary and has plans for numerous future events.

"The concept of an organization, which will benefit and promote the arts in the greater Zachary area, was initiated by the Quality of Life division of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce. Efforts were made to have people from all aspects of the community represented at the initial meeting of RACZ," explained Petty.

RACZ presented Blending of the Arts, an introductory and informative event on Nov. 12 at the Zachary 2nd Saturday Community Market.

Also, the RACZ logo contest winner was announced. Please check out this week's Zachary Plainsman for more.

The Plainsman hits newsstands Wednesday, Nov. 16.
