The crash occurred on US Hwy. 61 south of Pride Port Hudson Road in East Baton Rouge parish shortly after noon Sept. 9.
The roadway remained closed for about an hour while Troopers investigated the crash and cleared the scene, said TFC Russell G. Graham II.
Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Kenneth Cavin, 19, of St. Francisville was driving a 2006 Ford pickup north on US 61 when he lost control of the pickup, crossed the median and became airborne, GRaham said.
As Cavoin's truck rolled over, it struck the top of a southbound 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis, being driven by Willie Ross Sr., 84, of Baton Rouge, said Graham.
Ross and his passenger, Jonas Ross, 81, both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office, Graham said.
Cavin sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A third vehicle was struck by debris during the crash, but the driver was uninjured, said Graham.
Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash. However, they have submitted blood samples of each of the drivers to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
roopers do suspect speed to have been a factor in the crash, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
