DOTD officials met at the Zachary Chamber last week to field questions about the upcoming Hwy. 64 project that could affect business owners on a 0.943 mile stretch of roadway.

The project will widen La. 64/Main Street and add a two-way center turn lane to the existing four lanes on La. 64 in Zachary from La. 19 to McHugh Road.

The project is scheduled to bid in December 2012, with construction scheduled for Spring 2013, if everything remains on schedule DOTD said.

Cost of the project is estimated between $3-4.5 million.

DOTD said most of the right-of-way has been acquired along the area to be widened.

"We'll keep people updated throughout the project, and no business entrances are expected to close during the construction phase," said DOTD.
