The popularity of the Baker Buffalo Festival has grown to allow activities over two September weekends with all proceeds benefiting Baker schools.

The first event is the golf tournament scramble 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at Dumas Memorial Golf Course. Registration is $100 per person or $400 per team. Hole sponsors are $100 and a hole-in-one pays $20,000 cash. Call (225) 778-0300 to register.

Saturday, Sept. 22, is family day at BREC’s Greenwood Community Park, opening with the “Running of the Buffaloes” 5K run and walk, and a half-mile race for children (Thunder Division) and special needs individuals (Lightning Division). Registration is at 7 a.m. at the Waterfront Pavilion. Race begins at 8 a.m.

The rest of the morning is devoted to Buffal-O-lympics with teams competing in volleyball, kayak and canoe races, followed by individual competition in the “King of the Wings” cook-off.

In the afternoon, a family fishing rodeo, more Buffal-O-lympics with disc golf, dodgeball and pickleball, prelims for talent show and a movie on the Greenwood Amphitheater lawn at sundown.

Sunday, Sept. 23, is the Rose Queen Pageant in the Baker Municipal Auditorium for girls 8-23 years old. Four queens will be chosen: Miss ages 17-23, Teen Miss ages 14-16, Junior Miss ages10-13, and Deb Miss ages 8-9. Deadline for registration is Sept. 19. Activities continue on Thursday, Sept. 27, family night at City Hall Park on Groom Road. Events kick off with carnival rides and vendors at 5 p.m., followed by Magician Wally Wise Guy and the children’s public safety theater. The student talent show begins at 6 p.m., and the Dunn Deal Allstars will play from 8-10 p.m., when festivities conclude for the evening.

Friday, Sept. 28, is “Welcome to Baker Night” featuring carnival rides, vendors, art contest, spelling bee, Discovery Dome Planetarium, Car and Bike Show & Shine, and U4RIA band.

Saturday, Sept. 29, begins with a parade, followed by the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., carnival rides, vendors, entertainment by Lady Cam and Adonai’s Butterflies Dance Studio, Mellow Band, “King of the Wings” cook-offs for restaurants and another open to all, children’s games and races, boxing in the Municipal Auditorium, Magician Extraordinaire Chris Miller and student entertainment. The festival concludes with the Run Jane Run band.
