The 2011 FAZE winner, Y'Kethia Robert, was presented a check for $1,000 at Northwestern Elementary School on Dec. 16. Robert, who bought her winning FAZE (Foundation Assisting Zachary Education) raffle ticket at NES, has a daughter, Alivia Robert, who is in Kindergarten there and a son in the 8th grade at Northwestern Middle.

FAZE was founded in 1992 by Dr. Lynn Buzhardt of the Animal Center, and is a non-profit organization which raises funds and makes donations primarily for educational purposes to Zachary schools.

FAZE board members consist of one representative from each school in the Zachary Community School District. Present for the prize donation was Kelli Day, NES Asst. Principal; Laura Steen, FAZE co-chair; Y'Kethia Robert, FAZE winner; Gwen Savario, FAZE president; and Martha Davis, NES Principal.

FAZE fundraisers pay for educational items such as expenses or registration fees teachers may incur for seminars or workshops; materials for students; and anything the school or district cannot fund for the educators or pupils.
