A battle to the end, Zachary Police detectives, officers and reserves played Zachary firefighters - career and contract - in the first annual Guns & Hoses Flag Football Fundraiser last Thursday night in Bronco Stadium.

Although it was the Guns from the ZPD who scored first, it was the ZFD Hoses who came out on top with a final score of 56-42.

Cost of admission to the inaugural event was a $1 donation and canned goods. In all, about $465 was raised, and the canned goods will be given to the Zachary Food Pantry. The funds raised will benefit volunteer programs within both the departments.

All who attended enjoyed an a capella performance of the National Anthem by Megan Miller, who is headed for American Idol fame in Hollywood! ZHS Cheerleaders helped keep up the spirit for both teams and attendees.

The Hoses won the coin toss, but it was the Guns who scored first, making it an exciting game for the rest of the night.

All of the officers and firefighters played well together, putting on a great show for all who attended the friendly game of flag football.

ZHS Head Football Coach Neil Weiner and Asst. Coach Cade Worsham refereed the game.

Judge Richard "Chip" Moore provided the colorful commentary.
