A 15-year-old black male juvenile has been charged with criminal damage to property and simple burglary after he allegedly burglarized Family Dollar Store on Main Street Saturday, March 1.

Lt. John B. “Chip” Matte, chief of detectives for the Ville Platte Police Department, said the department responded to a reported burglary at Family Dollar and discovered the front window broken and the back door open. He said the suspect allegedly attempted to get into the safe but couldn’t.

Detectives received a copy of the surveillance video, which led to the arrest of the juvenile.

The juvenile was charged and will appear in juvenile court.
