I really meant to write a letter in reference to Memorial Day last week. However, I don't believe it is ever to late to remember the American Heroes who have served and who are now serving in our military.

We must teach our children and grandchildren what Memorial Day is about. I heard a child say on television the other day that he had always heard of Memorial Day and even July 4th, but he never understood what the special days were all about.

I truly believe our schools are failing perhaps because of politics involved to teach children what America is all about. I remember as a child in school, every morning before any school subject was begun we were required to stand and recite the Pledge of allegiance.

Our teachers were proud to lead us and we studied American History so we would get an understanding of the Great privilege we had in living in such a Great and Free Country.

Now if a teacher was to ask her students to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, she would be dragged into court for hurting some kids feelings whose parents hate the country they so freely live in.

My feelings are if you are reading this and hate America and what it stands for then leave and don't bother looking back cause you won't be missed. I was blessed to have spent Memorial Day with two American Military Heroes, from two different generations. One was my brother Henry who served in Vietnam and earned two Purple Hearts ( and I do mean earned), the other was a Korean War Veteran, Retired District Judge Charles Joiner whose license plate reads DV. Again this was not given, but earned.

Men and Women who served and those serving in the military are all heroes, no matter if they fought in battles or not. The point is by serving in the military they are willing to fight and die if called on to preserve the

Freedom we all enjoy. I'll repeat the comment I made above, if you hateAmerica, then leave, you will Not Be Missed. My wife and I have been Proud to be an American all of our life and we'll die proud. Please, if you see a Former or Active Military Person thank them for their Service.
