UPDATE: The Louisiana State Police continues its search for the driver of a black or blue early model Z-71 truck that was possibly involved in a hit-and-run fatality on Nov. 10.

LSP Trooper Evan Harrell said that they are actively pursuing all leads and need the public's help.

"Louisiana State Police is still looking for a hit and run vehicle involved in a fatality crash on La. 3185 in Lafourche Parish on Nov. 10. We would like to reach out to all media and the public in order to help get the message out. Maybe with everyone's help we can find a solid lead that helps get this case resolved and gives closure to the family," Tpr. Harrell said in a statement releases Nov. 29.

The Z-71 was described by witnesses to be a dark blue or black early 1995-2000 model Chevrolet Z-71 truck, possibly two-tone with a gray or tan bottom.

Witnessses say the truck possibly has chrome rails on the bed liner and standard Z-71 rims.

The rear of the truck has “CHEVROLET” on the back tailgate and was operated by an unknown black male driver, 30-40 years old, and who possibly has or had a goatee.

The vehicle may have damage around the front driver’s side wheel well from rolling over the motorcycle, LSP said.

Authorities are still searching for the unknown driver who was involved in a hit-and-run fatality in Lafourche Parish, reported Trooper Evan Harrell with the Louisiana State Police on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, about 7:56 a.m. on State Road 3185 near La. 1 around the Thibodaux area, a vehicle described as a blue, early 2000-model Chevrolet Z-71 truck was being operated by an unknown black male who was driving eastbound on La. 3185, reports Harrell.

A blue 2003 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Karey Authement, 41, of Baton Rouge, was driving westbound on La. 3185.

As the Yamaha was traveling westbound, the Z-71 failed to yield to the motorcycle as it attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway,Tpr. Harrell said.

Authement took an evasive maneuver by laying the motorcycle down but still struck the Z-71. During the time of the maneuver and/or while striking the Z-71, Authement was ejected from the motorcycle at which time the Z-71 rolled over him, LSP reports.

The Z-71 fled the scene and was last seen traveling south on La. 1.

Authement was wearing an approved DOT helmet and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional by Acadian Ambulance and then flown to University of New Orleans were he later died from his injuries, said Tpr. Harrell.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were involved in this incident, and the investigation continues.
